First heard this song almost 20 years ago.
It was during a time of upheaval in my life. Of physical & emotional breakdown. This music, for a brief moment, elevated me above it.This week a few words of the not completely forgotten chorus suck into the forefront of my consciousness. After searching the (wrong) title for 5 hours yesterday, I finally re-discovered Tasmin Archer’s “Sleeping Satellite” song on You Tube.
Finding this song is like finding a long lost friend and feeling them love you in person again.
The way it moves me defies description. Its like memory, melody & poetry combined into some intoxicating drink that I can only ingest through my ears. Music is so mysterious on that level. I’ll never understand. But lets just say it rubs my auditory receptors in just the right manner. Always did. I’m glad to find a few pieces of music from my past that still can. Much of it feels irrelevant or dated, and I eventually stop enjoying. In this song tho- a vision of planets spinning in the cosmos, earth-conscious lyrics, and bittersweet chorus meshes perfectly with my passionate, inspired, desirous new creative mood. If you want to climb inside my head and feel what my brain is like when its bliss-ed out (or just hear something new) play this song a few (hundred) dozen times. Then take a deep breath and dive underwater into a group of playful dolphins. Let’s do it together!
Be sure to purchase some songs if you end up loving her music as I do.
My whole heart thanks you Tasmin!
Sleeping Satellite lyrics
Songwriters: Hughes, John; Beck, John; Archer, Tasmin;
I blame you for the moonlit sky
And the dream that died with the Eagle’s flight
I blame you for the moonlit nights
When I wonder why are the seas still dry?
Don’t blame this sleeping satellite
Did we fly to the moon too soon?
Did we squander the chance? In the rush of the race
The reason we chase is lost in romance
And still we try to justify the waste
For a taste of man’s greatest adventure
I blame you for the moonlit sky
And the dream that died with the Eagle’s flight
I blame you for the moonlit nights
When I wonder why are the seas still dry?
Don’t blame this sleeping satellite
Have we got what it takes to advance?
Did we peak too soon? If the world is so green
Then why does it scream under a blue moon?
We wonder why the earth’s sacrificed
For the price of its greatest treasure
I blame you for the moonlit sky
And the dream that died with the Eagle’s flight
I blame you for the moonlit nights
When I wonder why are the seas still dry?
Don’t blame this sleeping satellite
And when we shoot for the stars
What a giant step have we got what it takes
To carry the weight of this concept?
Or pass it by like a shot in the dark
Miss the mark with a sense of adventure
I blame you for the moonlit sky
And the dream that died with the Eagle’s flight
I blame you for the moonlit nights
When I wonder why are the seas still dry?
Don’t blame this sleeping satellite
